Digital Voices is a web series Laurette released in 2020 with a feature on CBC Edmonton. It is a video project that encourages individuals to share their story, break stigmas, create connection, reclaim their story, and inspire others to do the same. The project was featured on several news outlets discussing the impact that representation can have in media, and continues to break barriers by facilitating discussions on an educational level in classrooms.
In June of 2024 Lex was selected for Empowered Filmmakers in Cranbrook, British Columbia, alongside her brother, Ethan Blyan. As part of this program for indigenous filmmakers, she directed the film Interlude, an abstract short film that focuses on the “in between” moments of life. This film is set to release on TELUS Optik Tv in Fall of 2024.
Currently, Lex is working on producing and directing a documentary series, Matriarch’s, in collaboration with TELUS Storyhive. The series is set to release Summer of 2025, and will feature six episodes highlighting individuals making intergenerational impact within their families in British Columbia, and Alberta. The project has roots in Lex’s hometown of Lloydminster, Alberta, as Storyhive aims to give power to locally reflective stories.
As a passionate storyteller, it is Lex’s goal to use filmmaking as a tool to share stories and truths that touch on impactful, and sometimes complex subjects.
